Announcing Great Wall’s Hope Trip Camp April 10-13, 2009 - Beijing, China

MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN A CHILD’S LIFE - BECOME A SPONSOR

Forty-Six Chinese orphans will be given a once-in-a-life time opportunity to travel to Beijing to participate in the educational and fun Hope Trip Camp.  The children come eager to learn, excited to make new friends, ready to face new challenges and discover gifts they didn’t even know they had.  The children will be introduced to American culture and family life, as well participate in fun and enriching activities.  All the children selected to attend the Hope Trip Camp will be available for adoption.  Great Wall will work closely with the CCAA to select boys and girls age 8 to 13 years old.  Our Great Wall Staff and volunteers will get a chance to personally meet and evaluate the children and provide a first-hand report to interested families.  Watch for the Talent Show Video to be posted on our website!

Great Wall’s Rodeo themed Hope Trip Camp will show the children our Texas hospitality.  Each child will receive a Rodeo Goodie Bag with a cowboy hat, lasso, bandana, T-shirt, school supplies and other fun items!  We are looking for 30 families to donate $50 each to help purchase these items.  Each child will receive a special note in their Rodeo Goodie Bag letting them know that your family sends these items with love.

You Can Make A Difference!  Your $50 will go to purchase a Rodeo Goodie Bag for a special child.  You can have a positive influence on an orphan child’s life today:

  •
    • Fill out the Credit Card Authorization form and Sponsor a Child
    • Make a Donation Online https://www.gwca.org/node/106

Medical Glossary

Leigh | March 5, 2009

As families start to research information about the waiting child program - it is important to become aInternational Adoption Medical Specialistsware of and understand the common medical conditions the children may have that are adopted through the CCAA’s waiting child program. There are many resources available to families.  Several suggestions on places to start your research include:

  • Talking to your local pediatrician or medical expert on the condition you are researching.
  • Begin using web tools to research conditions. Here is a link to a medical glossary from our China’s Angels newsletter. Webmd.com and Google are also very good places to start your research
  • Contact an international adoption specialist to find out more about the conditions and their process for working with families to review files should a match be found for your family.

Hague Convention approval information

Leigh | March 4, 2009

This is a reminder to  families who are adopting a child from a Hague Convention country that certain wording must be included in the homestudy approval and approved I800A (I797C) in order to appropriately file the I800 upon the official referral of a child from the CCAA. If you were not approved for your child’s age range, gender or health status - including special needs  - and all of these paramenters will not coincide with your child at the time you travel to China  - you will need to file an I800A supplement 3 with the appropriate supplemental documents and fees with USCIS.  For more information you may contact our office or please review the instructions located in the I800A application and I800 application located at the USCIS website.

Great Wall’s Angels

Leigh |

Currently our agency has 32 children that are waiting for their forever families. There are a few children I would like to highlight as we will soon have to return their files to the CCAA.  Please let us know if you are interested in talking more about any of these children.  You may email us at infowc@gwca.org or if you have an application on file you may enter the password protected site to request a formal inquiry of his file. http://www.gwca.org/node/251

If you would like to submit a waiting child application - you may do so here: http://www.gwca.org/node/254

  • Our first angel will be 10 years old this spring.  She was brought to the institute as an infant. The reports describe her as an easy-going and warmhearted little girl.  She is very open and polite. Some of her favorite activities are singing, dancing and playing outside.  The pictures show that her smile can light up a room! Growing up in the institute the care takers noted her development - as normal and on target. She is in good health. Her medical need is Hepatits B. Her ID on the agency listing is 31
  • Our next little angel is a handsome young man who will be 7 years old this year. We received updated information about his development in December and he is thriving and doing extremely well in school. His medical diagnosis is deafness.  According to the report he can hear weak voices with a hearing aid. He is in a special program and is receiving speech and language therapy. He is doing especially well in Math and Art and every day is becoming more outgoing. This special little boy is noted on our list with ID 19.
