For these Waiting Angels, Timing is Everything

stephanie | November 12, 2009

This week, we would like to introduce some of our waiting children who are in urgent need of loving and nurturing homes.  For these little ones, timing is of the essence.  As time steadily passes, their chances to reach their full potential diminish.  Your family may be able to provide the love that will help one of these angels soar.

Keep in mind that you can complete an adoption through our Waiting Child program in a fraction of the time!  Depending on the status of your dossier, you can travel to pick up your child in as few as three months from the time you are matched with a waiting child.

  • Sean is 7 years old and has a heart defect that causes high blood pressure and inadequate blood flow to the lungs.  He has had one surgery to put in place a Glenn shunt, but he will need more surgery to reach his optimum health.  Sean is very talkative and is kind and loving towards others. He loves to play football and remote control planes and cars. He learns very quickly and also helps the other children to learn new things. The most important thing to him is to find a family, and he would love to have a BIG one!  He was a participant in our Hope Camp in April.
  • Danny is 4 years old and has a serious blood disease that can cause excessive destruction of red blood cells and anemia.  It is not stated whether his condition is significant enough to require blood transfusions or not. At the age of 2.5 years old, he was able to walk and communicate with caregivers easily. He has the ability to respond to others and can assist when putting on clothes. He is fond of playing with toys, especially toy cars.
  • Shane is a beautiful 2 year old boy with a rare blood disease which causes excessive destruction of red blood cells and anemia.  Due to the seriousness of his condition, he needs regular blood transfusions about once a month.  Continual blood transfusions can cause a build up of iron in the blood and major organs. A continued overload of iron in the blood can cause organ damage and, eventually, organ failure. In order to prevent this buildup, chelation therapy is typically used to strip the excess iron from the blood.  This therapy is not available in China.  This sweet-faced little boy is active and smart. He enjoys playing with other children and riding on a hobbyhorse or a baby tricycle. He is interested in his surrounding environment. He enjoys playing with blocks and shouts happily when he creates a strange, new shape.

These two beautiful girls are in need of coming home to their families before September, 2010.  Both of these girls will celebrate their 14th birthday at that time, and thus no longer be eligible for adoption.

  • Lele is diagnosed with Hepatitis B and has had an extra finger removed.  She gets along well with other children, and she respects teachers and caretakers.  Lele often helps younger children do all the things she can do. She is helpful, polite to people, and is regarded highly by teachers and caretakers. She takes her classes seriously and likes music.  Lele participates in a training class for the Chinese ancient organ, Zheng, and can play nice songs.
  • Carissa is post-operative for cleft lip and palate.  She is a very loving, giving, caring young lady. She loves to help the nannies and learn to be independent. She is always striving for praise and loves to be surrounded by other children. Though she cannot learn as quickly as other children, she always tries to do better and loves to learn. In her family, she would love to have siblings, a computer, a Barbie and a grandma.  Carissa is sponsored by Great Wall’s Every Child Fund. Her adoptive family will be given $1,000 towards the cost of her adoption.
