Click here to watch me sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!John is a very loving and affectionate 10 year old boy who has cerebral palsy. He does not let his disability get in the way of living and is very independent; wanting to join in with doing chores as well as taking care of himself. He loves music and will lay down and listen to music on the radio for hours if given the opportunity. When the radio is playing in the car, he loves to sing along with it. He has a slight smile that he gives sometimes when something amuses him and other times he is unable to contain it and it gives birth to a full and beautiful laughter. John gets along well with other children, but mostly loves staying close by his host mom. He has had no problems bonding or attaching to his host family. He adores his host dad and riding in the truck with him. John already has a beginner’s understanding of telling time and is able to read and write some Chinese characters. He came to us with some understanding of basic English words like the colors and numbers, and during his time here has begun understanding even more. He wants desperately to live in the United States and speaks heartbreakingly of his desire not to go back to China. Through translation with his chaperone’s host family, we were able to understand that he believes he’ll have a better opportunity to work and in life if he stays here.John will undoubtedly make a smooth transition into the loving family who opens their heart and home to him.
Updates on John can be found on this Facebook Group.Shaine is 11 years old and likes to be around people. She would do well in a family with older children she can look up to. She is a good helper around the house and makes her own bed every morning without being told. She eats well and will eat anything offered to her. This summer she is learning to swim and ride a horse. Initially, she did not want to come near the water, but she loves it now. She went down the slide numerous times. She knows how to jump rope and dribbles a basketball very well. Shaine will cry for no apparent reason. She does well with consistency. She also does well if you explain the plans for the day, so she knows what to expect. Shaine is Hep B positive. Herbackground information states there is slight developmental delay. I believe it is partly because she is easily distracted and does not always focus on what she is being taught. She is loving her time here in Texas!
To follow Xiao’s journey visit his Advocacy Page here Jay is a good boy and though he is currently listed as 13 years old, he is believed to be younger. His age is currently under review to lower with the recommendation from U.S. doctor and dentist. Jay thrives with structure and knowing what his expectations are. He wants to know the “why” behind the rules, but when he understands the rules and why he should follow them, he is the first to comply and remind us if we are forgetting. When he understands how he fits into a situation, he loves to be the helper and the good boy. On first coming to the States, everything was different and had a hard time with all the newness of all that was around him. It was very disorienting for him and one of the first things he asked for was a map to try to figure out where he was. He is cognitively on target, but like most children really need the support and encouragement to push himself to his potential. He loves tinkering with items such as flashlights and remote control cars. He likes to take them apart (with permission) and use the parts to create various battery powered circuits. He has a more cautious nature and likes to be introduced to new experiences gradually. His only “need” listed in his file is chronic Hep B and when he had his physical in the States the doctor mentioned he heard a systolic heart murmur that he felt was most likely benign. Neither have any impact on his daily life, he plays and appears physically healthy like any other kid. Jay is attaching very well and would make a great addition to a family that was committed to helping him through the transitions that come with adoption. He thrives on the honest positive praise of those he feels connected to. He has so much potential and has already come so far in a few short weeks. He is currently being hosted in the Dallas area.
