Hi! My name is Maxwell and I am 3 years old. At four months old, my caretakers find out that I was a bit delayed compared to my peers and in 2012, my doctors stated that I have delayed cerebral development. I am an active and restless boy and I always have a ready smile. I am currently living with a foster family and my development is progressing. I am able to say words like “elder brother”, “Bye-bye”, and “younger brother.” I still have trouble eating harder foods and although I like to try and feed myself, I drop a lot on the floor. Also, sometimes when I play I keep my mouth open and tend to drool. I am a good dancer but I am not very good at sharing toys. I like to run fast, jump, and play with the other children.
Hi! My name is Kevin and I always have a ready smile. I have Down syndrome along with repaired ASD and VSD heart defects. I am a very active boy and I love to play games. Noisey places are lots of fun and I love playing with the other kids, I love to play with toy balls. I have a plush toy dog and frog. They are my very favorite and I love getting to love and kiss them. I am tender hearted and am progressing in my development everyday.
Hi, I’m Wyatt and I am 9 years old. The doctors say I can’t see because I am missing my eyes, but I don’t let that stop me! I enjoy playing with other children in the orphanage and helping my caregivers with daily chores. I am very active and eager to learn! I can count from 1 to 100, and I can memorize and recite poetry. I’m told I have a great memory! I’ve started reading braille in school, and they have me working on my hand coordination. I’m also able to eat, brush my teeth and clean myself all on my own! I am a very happy boy, and although I can be a little shy in a new environment, I adjust quickly and am happy to make new friends! My caregivers say that I am sweet, easy to talk to and kind!
Hi, I’m Jimmy and I just turned 7 years old! I have been diagnosed with CP, and I had a brain scan that shows nothing abnormal on my CT. My file is older so my friends at GWCA are trying to get updated information. In 2010 I was walking independently, expressing my needs, and learning on my own. I can understand what my caregivers are asking me to do and follow instructions. My caregivers like me very much and say that I am very pleasant! I love to play outside in the sun!
Hi, I’m Jory and I am 7 years old. I have been diagnosed with arthrogryposis multiplex. This causes high muscle tension in my wrists, elbows, knees, and ankles. Because of this, I am unable to walk on my own. I am sitting up on my own. I am learning in school and have been doing really great developmentally. My caregivers say that I am very extroverted and love to play with cars. Any time that I see a toy car, my face lights up! My file is a little bit older, so my friends at Great Wall are trying to get more information on how I am doing today!

What an incredible bunch of kiddos we have this week! These five are GWCA’s rockstars. It’s exciting when orphanages are able to provide videos for us to really see what the children are like. These kiddos all have great videos of them, singing, dancing and much more. Which one of these superstars is destined to be a part of your family? Share these kids with other potential families so we can find them their forever families!
Zeke
Hi, I’m Zeke and I am 9 years old. The doctors say that I have a condition called thalassemia. It requires that I have blood transfusions every 1-2 months. Because of this, the orphanage has not allowed me to attend school, but I am still learning in the orphanage. I am able to count, sing, dance, do all my chores, and play just like my friends. When I get a little pale, my caregivers will take me to the hospital for the transfusions. I am a little bit behind my friends in math and schooling because I have not been attending school. I love to play with my friends outside, and I especially love to slide! I am very helpful around the orphanage and my caregivers say that I have a lot of pride!
Henry
Hi, I’m Henry and I am almost 9 years old. I have been diagnosed with CHD with Double exists of RV, and AV is deformed with two valves. My file has not been updated since 2008 so my friends at Great Wall are working on getting more information on how I am doing today! In 2008 I was active, on target with my friends, and living a very typical life. I had a little bit of cyanosis because of my heart, but it does not affect my daily routine. I love to listen to music, sing, and be around my peers. My caregivers say that I am loving and enjoy to play with my friends most!
Emma
Hi, I’m Emma and I just turned 6 years old! When I was younger I had hydrocephalus but I had surgery for this in 2010 and I have not had any concerns about this since then. Due to my hydrocephalus I used to be delayed from my friends. I went to live in a foster home in 2009 to get more individualized attention, but my file has not been updated. In 2010 I was walking on my own, but not quite speaking yet. My friends at Great Wall are working on getting updates to see how I am doing today!

Have you ever wondered what country would be most suitable for your family to adopt from? Are all the country requirements too complicated to understand? CAN has developed a new simple tool for your family to determine what country fits your family. Click here to check out our NEW country matching system.
Read MoreAdoption Desires
What are your family’s adoption desires? How do you know where to begin? It is possible that your family may have an idea in mind of how you see your family, maybe you haven’t gotten that far, however its important to better understand what ages are realistic when adopting internationally.
0-2 years old (Infant)
Your family is probably looking for that sweet baby to add to your family. That perfect little girl or boy to be the addition your family has been looking for. We are just as excited as you are to begin this journey with you, however if you were to come home with a child under two years old your options are extremely limited. In most countries it can take around a year for a file to be made available on a child, on top of that process can last anywhere from 9 – 60 months which are two big reasons it is difficult to come home with a young child. The wait can be exceedingly long which can be very difficult to over come. To learn more about the countries that have children available under two see the link to our country matching system at the bottom of this page.
3-7 years old (Toddler +)
Maybe your family is ready for a toddler and you don’t necessarily need the baby phase. Several of our countries have children available under seven, however most of the children have one or more medical concerns. Each country varies in the types of needs that are seen with children. It is common that there are several boys available at this age. The wait for a child this age will be less than that of infant but more than likely the child will have some degree of needs. Fortunately many of the needs are more manageable once they are treated in the United States. The longer these children suffer in their native country the worse their condition can become.
7 and up (Older Child)
There are many older children available for adoption in every country. More often than not the older children are typically healthy or suffer from emotional needs to due to being institutionalized. The older a child gets, the less likely it is that they are adopted. It is very unfortunate that these children may never find their forever families due to their age. Because there are more older children available, as a family you will be able to fulfill many other desires such as gender, needs, etc that will fit best with your family. Many older children are also educated, most institutions provide schooling and they may have already begun to discover their strengths and talents. Many of our older children are a part of sibling groups. This is perfect for a family that is looking to adopt more than once. It is possible for countries like China, Guyana, Bulgaria, Poland, and Ethiopia to view a child’s file today. Reach out to our International Adoption Consultants to learn how.
If you are wondering what country will be best for what your family is looking for, click here to use our fun new tool to determine what country best fits your family’s adoption desires.

These adorable little ones are this week’s Not So Terrible 2’s. All of these kiddos are right around 2 years old. It is very common that families look for a child under the age of two to adopt. It’s unfortunate the older a child gets the less likely they are to be adopted. These precious faces are fast approaching that first threshold that makes them less ‘desirable’. Their needs are a little more complex than some, but they are still children in need of that one family who will care for them, love them, and give them the chance that they deserve. Hi, I’m Hudson and I am 2 and a half! I love to ride on my toy horse. I was born with a facial cleft, but I had surgery for it and it has been repaired. I can hear my caregivers when they speak to me, follow their voices, and look for my toys when they are hidden. My caregivers think that I am able to fully hear. I am able to speak and identify objects that are asked. I can call for my caregivers and identify them by name. My facial cleft has had no affect on my eating or drinking! I can identify all my body parts and my caregivers think that I am very smart! I know my animals, colors, and my fruits and veggies!

Oh boy, we have so many boys! We try to feature our beautiful boys fairly often because there is such a need for families that are interested in adopting boys. Forty percent of our adoptions from China in 2013 were little boys. We have come a long way to bring these little guys home. However most people don’t realize how many boys are actually waiting. There are over 1200 boys waiting to find their forever families. Many of these boys have very minor needs and may be just a little bit older. It’s a common misconception that there are only girls waiting in China but that idea is far from true. To learn how to bring one of these precious boys home contact Ashley@gwca.org.
Hi, I’m Grady and I am 11 years old! I have been diagnosed with chondrodysplasia dwarfism. I am very active even though my limbs are very short. I am able to walk, run, and go upstairs independently. I am able to walk with holding onto something, and I can pull myself up independently. I am able to follow instructions, but I am not asking questions yet. My caregivers think it is because I am shy and unsure of my words. However, I can answer questions with gestures and sounds. My caregivers say that my cognitive development seems to be on target and I am doing great!
Hi, I’m Will and I can be a little shy and quiet. When I came into care, I was malnourished and a little small for my age. There is something special about a few of our WOW kids this week. Maisey, Mary and Brandon are all wonderful children from one of our Orphanage Partnerships. GWCA works with several orphanages exclusively to help support the care of the children. This also means we have an extra special relationship with these orphanages and their staff and we are able to communicate with them more frequently to better understand these children and their needs. Many of the children from these partnerships are exclusively advocated for by our agency. We recently received several files on children from one of our partnerships. Many of the kiddos have been matched but there are also some that have not. Check out our photo listing to see more of these waiting kiddos.
Hi! My name is Mary. I am a sweet little girl who has been diagnosed with postoperative anal atresia/fistula, vitreous opacity of right eye, a neoplasm of right ear, and congenital microphthalmus of both eyes. I am able to crawl around but I cannot walk on my own just yet. I still need support while standing up and if you help me I can walk slowly. My caretakers have a walker for me so that I can get around better. With my walker I am able to go places, sit, and stand up. I am learning how to eat with a spoon but I cannot see things that are far away due to my vision. I get along well with others and enjoy playing with the other children. My caretakers think I am very energetic and active.

When I was just over a year old, I was crawling by myself, stacking block, and taking blocks in and out of a cup. I could hold things in my hands and bang them together.
